Live Coverage: Tornadoes Reported, Thousands Without Power
Usa update news is providing live updates as a powerful storm system moves through the region.
ST. LOUIS — A severe storm system brought nearly a dozen tornado warnings to the greater St. Louis area, leaving widespread damage and power outages in its wake. As of late Friday night, reports indicated that approximately 100,000 buildings were without power, including 51,000 in St. Louis County.
By 10 PM, the storm had largely passed through central and eastern Missouri, but Illinois counties remained at risk.

Earlier in the day, an meteorologist warned that the storm system posed a "life-threatening situation," with the potential to produce strong tornadoes.
The storms entered the western portion of the St. Louis viewing area around 6 PM, moving into the metro region between 8 and 10 PM.
