The 97th Academy Awards wrapped up with Anora dominating the night, taking home five Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director (Sean Baker), and Best Actress (Mikey Madison). Hosted by Conan O’Brien, the ceremony was packed with surprises, heartfelt tributes, and memorable moments.
Big Wins of the Night
Adrien Brody secured his second Best Actor award for The Brutalist, while Kieran Culkin (A Real Pain) and Zoe Saldaña (Emilia Pérez) won for Best Supporting Actor and Actress, respectively.
Touching Tributes
Morgan Freeman honored the late Gene Hackman, who recently passed away alongside his wife and dog in their New Mexico home. Meanwhile, Oprah Winfrey, Whoopi Goldberg, and Queen Latifah paid tribute to Quincy Jones, who died in November.
A Night of Recognition
Firefighters who battled the devastating Los Angeles wildfires—events that delayed Oscar nominations twice in January—were also acknowledged during the show.
'Anora' Wins Best Picture
With five wins out of six nominations, Anora was the undisputed champion of the night. Accepting the Best Picture award, producer Samantha Quan encouraged young filmmakers:
"To all the dreamers out there, tell the stories you want to tell. You will never regret it."
Director Sean Baker added: "This film was made on the blood, sweat, and tears of incredible indie artists. Thank you to the Academy for recognizing a truly independent film."
