Mbappe double at Villarreal takes Real Madrid top of LaLiga
Mbappe’s Brace Lifts Real Madrid to La Liga Summit with 2-1 Win Over Villarreal
Kylian Mbappe delivered a match-winning performance as Real Madrid battled back to secure a 2-1 victory over Villarreal, moving them three points clear at the top of La Liga.
Early Setback and Quick Response
Villarreal took an early seventh-minute lead when Alex Baena’s corner was deflected by Aurelien Tchouameni, allowing Juan Foyth to capitalize from close range.
Madrid, however, responded just 10 minutes later. After Brahim Diaz’s shot was blocked, Mbappe reacted quickest, slotting home from close range to level the score.
The French superstar struck again six minutes later, converting Lucas Vazquez’s through ball with a composed finish for his 20th La Liga goal of the season.
Missed Hat-Trick and Ancelotti’s Frustration
Mbappe had a chance to complete his hat-trick in the second half after latching onto a Vinicius Jr pass, but the goal was ruled out for offside.
Following the match, Carlo Ancelotti voiced his frustration over the tight schedule, referencing their grueling Champions League shootout victory against Atletico Madrid just three days prior.
Title Race Heats Up
With the win, Real Madrid now sits at 60 points, three ahead of Barcelona, who have a game in hand after their fixture against Osasuna was postponed. Barça face third-placed Atletico Madrid on Sunday, adding further intrigue to the title race.
