March Madness bracket revealed for 2025 NCAA men's tournament: Auburn announced as No. 1 overall seed ahead of Duke
The NCAA men’s tournament bracket was unveiled on Selection Sunday, with Auburn earning the No. 1 overall seed in the South Region. Joining them as top seeds are Duke (East), Houston (Midwest), and Florida (West), following Florida’s SEC Championship victory over Tennessee.
Notable No. 2 seeds include Tennessee, Michigan State, Alabama, and St. John’s. Meanwhile, bubble teams North Carolina and Texas secured their spots, while Indiana missed the cut.
How Auburn Earned the No. 1 Overall Seed
Auburn finished the regular season 28-5, playing against the nation’s second-toughest schedule. Despite losing three of their last four games, including a defeat to Tennessee in the SEC semifinals, the NCAA selection committee rewarded their impressive overall résumé.
Auburn’s dominance in a record-breaking SEC—which sent 14 teams to the tournament—was a key factor. They edged out Duke (31-3), despite Duke’s win over Auburn in December and their ACC regular-season and tournament titles.
Duke’s Case for the No. 1 Overall Seed
Duke finished 31-3, boasting a nation-leading 20.8-point average margin of victory. They dominated the ACC (19-1 record) but were hurt by their strength of schedule (ranked 57th).
However, with Cooper Flagg expected to return from an ankle injury, Duke remains a strong championship contender.
