Lakers Deliver Unfortunate Update on Austin Reaves
The Los Angeles Lakers wrapped up the second night of a back-to-back with a 111-102 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Thursday, marking their fourth consecutive win and improving their record to 36-21 ahead of Friday’s matchup with the Clippers.
Despite a sluggish start, the Lakers found their rhythm in the second quarter, fueled by 40-year-old LeBron James, who posted 17 points in just 18 minutes before halftime.
However, concern quickly arose regarding Lakers guard Austin Reaves, who played only nine minutes before heading to the locker room. Speculation grew about his condition, and ESPN’s Dave McMenamin later reported that Reaves had been ruled out due to right calf soreness. He is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Saturday.
Reaves has established himself as a crucial part of the Lakers' core alongside LeBron James and Luka Dončić. He’s coming off an impressive 23-point performance against Minnesota, adding six rebounds and five assists. This season, the undrafted guard is putting up career-best numbers, averaging 19.2 points, 6.1 assists, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.1 steals while shooting 44.6% from the field and 36.0% from three.
The news comes on the heels of another injury setback for the Lakers, as Rui Hachimura was sidelined less than 24 hours prior. While head coach JJ Redick downplayed the severity of Hachimura’s injury, he was unable to suit up on Friday. Now, all eyes are on Reaves, whose absence would be a significant blow to a Lakers team that has been performing at a high level over the past two months.
