Grammy-nominated R&B singer Angie Stone dies in car crash

Grammy-nominated R&B singer Angie Stone, known for her role in the pioneering all-female hip-hop trio The Sequence and the hit song "Wish I Didn’t Miss You," was killed early Saturday in a car crash. She was 63.

Stone had been traveling back to Atlanta from Alabama when the vehicle she was riding in overturned and was struck by a big rig, her longtime manager, Walter Millsap III, told The Associated Press in an email.

According to the Alabama Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 4:25 a.m. on Interstate 65, approximately five miles south of Montgomery. The 2021 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van she was in flipped over before being hit by a 2021 Freightliner Cascadia truck driven by a 33-year-old Texas man.

Stone was pronounced dead at the scene, while the van’s driver and seven other passengers were transported to Baptist Medical Center for treatment. Officials are still investigating the cause of the crash.

Millsap said he received the heartbreaking news from Stone’s daughter, Diamond, and longtime The Sequence member Blondy.
