LaVar Ball, father of Charlotte Hornets star LaMelo Ball and Chicago Bulls guard Lonzo Ball, recently had his right foot amputated due to a "serious medical issue," according to a TMZ Sports report on Wednesday.

Despite the procedure, Ball is reportedly in "good spirits."

Ball first gained national attention in 2017 when his eldest son, Lonzo, entered the NBA Draft. He famously predicted that Lonzo would be drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers—an assertion that proved true when the Lakers selected him with the No. 2 pick.

Beyond his outspoken personality, Ball is known for bold claims, including saying he could beat Michael Jordan one-on-one and that Lonzo was the best player on a Lakers roster that featured LeBron James.

In 2016, Ball, now 57, founded "Big Baller Brand," a company that created signature shoes for his sons—LaMelo, Lonzo, and LiAngelo. The brand's website was briefly shut down in 2019 but has since reopened.

Ball also established the Junior Basketball Association in 2017, funded by "Big Baller Brand," as an alternative pathway for young players. Both LaMelo and LiAngelo played in the league.

Currently, LaMelo Ball is averaging a career-high 27.3 points per game for the Hornets, while Lonzo recently returned to the court for the Bulls after missing three years due to knee injuries.

LiAngelo Ball previously played for the Hornets' G League affiliate but has yet to appear in an NBA game. Most recently, he played for Astros de Jalisco in Mexico and has since pivoted to a rap career, performing at this year's All-Star Weekend.

Both LaMelo (2020) and Lonzo (2017) were top-three picks in their respective NBA drafts.
