Hunter Schafer Says New Passport Incorrectly Lists Her as Male

Hunter Schafer, the transgender actress known for her role in HBO’s Euphoria, has revealed that her newly issued U.S. passport lists her as male—despite selecting female when filling out the application.

"I was shocked," Schafer said in a TikTok video, displaying the "M" marker on her travel document. Her previous passport had correctly listed her as female.

The 26-year-old criticized former President Donald Trump’s policies on gender, saying, "I just didn't think it was actually going to happen."

Trump signed an executive order on his first day back in office defining sex strictly as male or female based on birth records, eliminating the ability for individuals to select a gender marker or choose "X" as a non-binary option—a designation introduced by the Biden administration in 2022.

Schafer had applied for a replacement passport after losing her previous one while filming overseas. She expected no issues but was shocked to find her gender marker changed without her consent. With plans to travel abroad soon, she expressed concern about potential challenges at the airport.

"This is a direct result of the administration our country is currently operating under," she said.

Trump’s executive order asserts that sex is "not changeable" and should not be conflated with gender identity.
